Car total cost of ownership (TCO)
Everyone calculates customs, but not the real cost of owning a car. This tool combines the purchase price, fuel, insurance, tax, maintenance and depreciation to show the real cost per year and per kilometre — so you can compare cars properly when choosing. Pick a country (Georgia, Azerbaijan or Armenia) and the currency, default fuel price and local tax/insurance notes switch automatically.
Fuel prices and tax rules checked 2026-10; Georgia and Armenia fuel defaults are approximate.
How it's calculated
Total cost = depreciation (purchase price − resale price) + years × (insurance + maintenance + tax) + fuel. Fuel cost is worked out from the annual mileage, consumption and price per litre. It's then divided by the years and total mileage to give the cost per year and per km. In Azerbaijan the AI-92 pump price is set by the Tariff Council (1.15 ₼/L since December 2025); in Georgia and Armenia fuel is market-priced, so the default is approximate. For Armenia you can estimate the annual car property tax from engine power and year of manufacture.
Example
A car bought in Yerevan for 6,000,000 ֏ and sold after 5 years for 3,600,000 ֏ loses 2,400,000 ֏ in depreciation. At 15,000 km a year, 8 L/100 km and ~600 ֏/L, fuel is about 720,000 ֏ a year. Add insurance, maintenance and the annual car tax to get the real yearly cost.
Frequently asked questions
What is depreciation?
The car's loss of value: the difference between the purchase price and the future resale price. It is often the biggest single cost.
Where do I get the resale price?
Look at Bazarla listings of a similar make, age and mileage.
Is there an annual car tax in Georgia?
There is no separate annual vehicle tax for private owners; a car is only subject to property tax if the family's income last year exceeded 40,000 GEL. Liability insurance is still voluntary for Georgian-registered cars (a compulsory scheme is planned).
Do you pay tax on a private car in Azerbaijan?
Under the Tax Code, passenger cars owned by individuals and not used in business are exempt from property tax, so the default is 0. Compulsory motor third-party insurance (icbari sığorta) is required — enter your policy price under Insurance.
How is the annual car tax calculated in Armenia?
Per horsepower: 200 ֏ up to 120 hp, 300 ֏ for 121–250 hp, 500 ֏ from 251 hp, plus 1,000 ֏ for every hp above 150; older cars get up to a 50% reduction. Since April 2026 EV power is converted with a lower formula. Choose Armenia and the tool estimates it for you.
Is the result accurate?
It's an estimate; fuel prices, maintenance and insurance vary. Check rs.ge, taxes.gov.az and src.am for official figures.
